Memoirs of a Nobody- Chapter 1 by ~o0Calyx0o:icono0Calyx0o:

Disclaimer: This, dear readers, is a fanfiction. We realize that. We don’t think any of this shit is real, our OCs are just OCs, and we’re not going to flip out if you don’t like them. If you don’t, we do however kindly suggest that you DO NOT READ PAST THIS DISCLAIMER. The three of us wrote this purely for our own amusement- not because we’re complete and total fan girls. …okay, that’s a lie. But we know that it isn’t real. We’ve also spent WAY too much damn time theorizing and making things… make sense. You know, as much as Kingdom Hearts can. So, we kindly ask for constructive criticism, not flames or idiotic stuff like ‘u gais sux. *insert name of preferred Org. XIII member here* is mine!’ We never planned to post this story. Ever. However, we DID post it just in case there was the small chance that anyone had the same strange sense of humor we do, and would perhaps read and enjoy this. Thank you, and have a wonderful day! (BTW, we don't own Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, or any of their respective characters.)

“Alyc!!!! Getupgetupgetupgetupgetupget-” My hand shot out from under my covers, clapping over the mouth of the owner of the offending voice, effectively silencing them. Opening my eyes, I glared at the diminutive person sitting on my stomach.

“Lyn…” I started slowly, “What, exactly, do you want?”

Green eyes rolled as if I’d asked the most obvious question in the world. “Uh, hello? The SeeD ball? Tonight? Ring any bells?”

I looked over at my clock, wondering if I’d overslept. I had not. “It doesn’t start for another three and a half hours, Lyn. Why are you waking me up now? I’m exhausted.”

“I don’t care! Go! Shower!” She ordered, leaping off me and flinging my covers back. I groaned and, knowing sleep would not be allowed while the smaller girl was in the room, I walked into the ‘living area’ of my dorm. My roommate was sitting on the couch.

“I tried to stop her, but you know Lyn.” Sarah Gallagher, my roommate, shrugged and shook her head, blonde hair sliding in front of her eye with the motion. I nodded, indeed knowing Lyn and her erratic and usually unstoppably energetic ways. Grabbing my towel from where I’d thrown it after my last shower (two days ago, I realized with an ‘ick’), I headed into the hall and down toward the showers.

The SeeD ball. It was all Lyn had talked about since we had begun preparing for the exam. And probably the only reason she’d passed the field exam, I mused with a laugh. While Lyn may have been one of the best spell casters that Balamb Garden had, she was still a bit… prissy, I suppose, deep down.

Lyn Tenor had been one of my best friends since we had met almost a year ago. She was only five one to my five eight, but she could kick my ass (figuratively speaking, as her physical prowess was… lacking) in a battle when she had a full stock of higher level spells and a few ethers on hand. She looked almost like a child, with her height and petite figure and looks, but she was actually older than me by almost a year. Her hair didn’t help much either- the red strands were styled into a short, younger looking cut made everyone who saw Lyn think ‘aw, she’s so cute and adorable’…

Until she fried them with a Thundara, that is.

Sarah was a different story. She was only older than me by a few months, and had easily passed the field exams without the need for magic, which she was a bit clumsy with. She preferred- like me, actually- to solve her problems with physical strength instead of magic. Sarah was as tall as I was (sometimes taller, if she was wearing the right boots), with dusty blonde hair down to her waist, and beautiful violet-blue eyes. Unlike Lyn, who was skinny as a twig, Sarah had more of a figure on her. Her weapons of choice were usually long range projectiles.

Then there was me. Alyc Harper; youngest SeeD in our year, not to mention the youngest squad leader in the Garden. My specialty was hand to hand and sword combat (though I also tended to use throwing knives and razor disks as well)- which put me in a up-close-and-personal situation with my opponents, whereas my teammates could stand back and shoot as many thunders and arrows at them as they wanted.

With a sigh, I washed the shampoo out of my knee length, white-blonde hair, wincing as the muscles in my back tensed and released in ways that weren’t exactly comfortable. As nice as if felt to be clean, I would rather be in my bed, still sleeping. The final exam had been an exhausting ordeal with too many monsters and not enough potions. It had been worth it, though, to finally receive my grade and shake Headmaster Cid’s hand as he congratulated me.

I was pleased to find that, when I got back to my room, Lyn had vacated it, and I could finally get some peace and quiet.

--

Three hours later, I was just finishing buttoning up my new uniform jacket when I heard pounding on my door. “Hold on.” I said, grabbing a deep blue- nearly black- ribbon off my dresser and pulling my hair back tightly. Opening the door, I found Lyn and Sarah standing there. Lyn gaped at me.

“What are you wearing?!”

“My uniform.”

“But… why?” She demanded. “This is formal!” She gestured to her own bright green mini-dress that matched her eyes and Sarah’s silvery-blue, slightly more conservative evening gown.

I flushed. “This is the only formal thing I own. I don’t do dresses.” Lyn rolled her eyes.

“Idiot! We could’ve gone into town and shopped!”

“Lyn, Alyc looks good in her uniform. She’s probably one of the only girls in the Garden  who can pull that off. Now can we go?” Sarah said, grabbing the smaller girl’s arm and pulling her toward the door, looking at me over her shoulder. I mouthed ‘thank you,’ to which she replied by waving it off.

“I told you, Lyn, I don’t really care about the ball.” I said, catching up to the two of them.

“Yeah, well… you’re still an idiot.” Lyn growled at me, trying to sound angry.

“That was pathetic.” I told her.

Her mask finally cracked, and she smiled. “Yeah, I know.”

When we made our way into the ballroom, I smiled. “The committee really went nuts, huh?”

Lyn laughed. “This is so awesome!” She squealed, immediately running off and disappearing into the crowd. Sarah just shook her head and headed in a different direction. With a sigh, I gave into peer pressure and went to mingle with a couple of kids from my classes.

“That’s a nice change, Alyc.” One of the boys, Antony, teased.

“Didn’t you have a dress?” Celia, another of the few female squad leaders, asked.

I shook my head. “No, I didn’t have time to buy one.”

“Yeah, that’s our Alyc.” Someone called. “She was too busy training from the exam. When did you even find time to sleep in between those sessions in the training center?”

I opened my mouth to reply, but was cut off by the sound of glass shattering and a scream. “What’s happening?” Antony yelled.

“It’s an attack.” Celia yelled. “Spread the word- find your squads! Use anything you can as a weapon!”

I dove into the crowd, searching frantically for Lyn or Sarah. A hand grabbed my shoulder, and I turned to see it was Sarah, her other hand wrapped around Lyn’s wrist. “Plan?” She panted.

“Always.” I nodded, but froze when the doors crashed open, and a T-rex came crashing through. “Damn it! The training center’s been breached!” Monsters came pouring into the room, wiping out any SeeD in their way.

“Alyc?” Lyn whispered fearfully. I looked around, trying to analyze the situation like they taught us, but…

“Okay, I have a plan, but it’s not great. We need to move. I don’t care where, just get out of here as fast as you can.” They both nodded. “Let’s go!” I sprinted toward the door, dodging around any monsters that came toward me. Two Raldos blocked the doorway. I sped up and leapt into the air, my boot coming down on a rock hard shell and I launched off of the monster’s back, landing on the tile floor. Two thumps behind me confirmed Lyn and Sarah had made it through.

“Where to now?” Sarah demanded while we ran down the hall from the ballroom.

I paused to think. “They’re aiming for large groups of people. The dorms’ll be overrun just because of the scent.”

“So we can’t go back and get our weapons.” Sarah groaned. “What the hell are we supposed to fight them with?”

“We’ll head to the cafeteria.” I decided. “We can hold them off in there, and there’s knives and stuff. Lyn, you just need something to channel through, right?” She nodded. “Great. Let’s go.”

Author's Comments

So... um, I'm very cautious about posting this up here. Why? Because people can get a wee bit snippy about KH fanfictions with OCs. Especially Orginization fanfictions.

But yeah. Read the disclaimer up top.

Anyway, this is a collab between me, ~baby-koala-bear and =SophiaRenu. We started writing this back in freshman year, and it has gradually been tweaked to fit our logic- which there is a bit of.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! It's fun to be reading the same ol' story and know NOTHING of FFX~! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAY!

*fails in corner*

Although we may be surrounded by Darkness, and we even teeter on the edge of the Void, she's still special. She may not be the World's Light, but until there's no breath left in us, we're going to protect our light.

Actually, it's FFVIII. But still.

And you does not fail! Do not degrade yourself so!

I must admit that was a fairly good read and that I actually hope to go over the following chapters. As it is I'm not much a KH fan and am loathe to even think of reading a fan fiction about it (I prefer Mass Effect FF's, BioShock or FFVII), but this was surprising. Rather well written, not an abhorrent amount of purple prose, and very few grammatical/punctuational errors. Those last two almost always make me turn away from an otherwise pleasant story as they are the first thing I notice.

But now I'm rambling. Look forward to the next few chapters if you do, indeed, decide to post the rest!

I'm honored by the compliments- I've been wincing every day I check my messages just in case they barrage of hate mail has finally come.

I hope not to disappoint! And my friends were ready to kill me over the grammer- I'm a wee bit of a grammer nazi and tended to nitpick at their parts. A lot.

I know what you mean about that last bit, but not because what I wrote was an FF. But honestly, I doubt you'll be getting any spiteful comments, especially here. As a general rule it seems people try to remain nice/helpful about FF's unless they're like My Immortal, a terrible butchering of the english language. Dubbed worst FF ever written.

"PREPZ STUP FLAMING SDA STRY OK!1 if u dnot lik da story den go fok urself u fokeng prep! U SUK!111 oh y and I wuznt beng rasist ok!11"

Sorry. BUT! You sound like myself and my fiancée on that last bit. We get onto each other for grammatical and punctuational mistakes, then find out we actually made the same ones. Its amusing.

:iconsophiarenu: A side of her I never knew! ...

I've heard of that ff... not going to read it in fear of my eyes revolting and leaping out of my skull.

Yeah, and :deviconSophiaRenu: is secretly a rabid fangirl! It's true!

... just don't tell her I said that. She'll hurt me...
